The OpenCoffee movement is implied as a non-player by omission by the freelance hacks commissioned to write for a SBP supplement. But Inventors of Ireland get listed. As to IIA and another (IMI, maybe?)
Can opencoffee point to any clear outcomes ! Ie new company formed, new technology relationships etc ? While I Agee oc is good for the start up environment , start ups have to starkly examine the outcomes of where they spend their time .
I don't think there are company formations in the mix but the SBP spotlights other meetups like First Tuesday as examples of networking in another article OpenCoffee is too new and off the radar for many.
Cubic will sign an agreement to licence technology of a Cork Open Coffee attendee within a month, we were actually in the same Open Coffee Meeting last week.
Well that's great but its a big but , this oc has just not delivered on outcomes as far as I know . I do think sowing a culture of co operation is infinitely worth while and ultimately more powerful . But to get there oc needs to publicise these outcomes and encourage more points of surface contact . IMHO
I don't know what you're getting at Paul, what are the criteria for a worthwhile networking event for start-ups? Open Coffee ticks more than enough boxes to merit a mention in SBP.
My criteria James is that it delivers on business or technology objectives. Clean and simple.hey I like meeting people as much as the next guy but bar some notion of community what is oc delivering for participants ? I'd welcome anyones story here .
"Delivers on business or technology objectives" - could you make that a bit more vague please? I have lots of stories of how open coffee Cork has assisted me and my business - from discussions about obscure applications of Python Imaging Library from other tech startups who are using this technology, to introductions with freelance programmers, and free legal advice. Let me know if you want me to write an essay on it. By the way, don't underestimate that "notion of community" either.
Ok ! Delighted it has done something for you tech wise and that you received great intros . Indeed that is business benifit. What I was implying was these benefits should be publicised and amplified . Also I think you will find on rereading my posting that I said that I believe that the culture of cooperation was probably the best and most powerful legacy of the oc. By business benefits let the listing go up on the wiki ? Testify.
Gabriela has an OpenCoffee wiki where testimonials should be made. The CEBs need to know the compelling reasons behind casual meetups that generate quality ideas for startups.
Great discussion. Please Pat, James and anyone else DO blog/twitter/write about the benefits you're getting from OpenCoffee so that we can all reblog, etc, to generate more publicity. Let's shout it from the rooftop folks! :)

That in my opinion is a huge loss to their readers

How so? Did they list networks and omit us or did they explicitly diss us?
